Massive open online course (MOOC) on marine litter pollution in Spanish

Description of the event: As part of the #CleanSeas campaign, UN Environment’s Global Partnership on Marine Litter is launching a massive open online course on marine plastic pollution in Spanish. The MOOC provides two different opportunities for interactive learning: a two-week leadership track offering an inspiring overview of the issue; and an eight-week expert track for more in-depth information on microplastics, sea-based sources and governance for example. Initiative for the sustainable development of the blue economy in the western Mediterranean

Description of the event: On 30 November last year the Ministers of Western Mediterranean countries gathered in Naples (Italy) to endorse and launch the “Initiative for the sustainable development of the blue economy in the Western Mediterranean” , a goal-oriented series of joint actions to make the common sea space safer, cleaner and more productive. The members of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) will meet on 31st  January 2018 in Brussels at the 127th plenary session to adopt an opinion of the Initiative http://cor.europa.eu/en/activities/opinions/pages/opinion-factsheet.aspx?OpinionNumber=CDR%202951/2017 ; the Secretariat of the UfM will intervene at the general debate opening the vote of the opinion.


Meeting on Marine Litter and Plastic Pollution

Description of the event: The Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) is organizing a Meeting on Marine Litter and Plastic Pollution 31 January 2018 in Brussels. The Future of European Aquaculture

Description of the event: Since the publication of the Strategic Guidelines on the sustainable development of European aquaculture, the European Commission has been working closely with Member States to address the obstacles hindering the development of the sector, primarily at the national level. As highlighted in the European Committee of the Regions’ Opinion on “The Future of European Aquaculture“, however, Regions have a key role to play in creating the right conditions for the development of EU aquaculture, through efficient licensing procedures, spatial planning, promotion of local products and other initiatives. A Conference to discuss these issues will be held on 2 February 2018 in Brussels, at the European Committee of the Regions and will be open to Member States representatives, Regional Authorities and other stakeholders. CPMR Intermediterranean Commission Working Groups and Political Bureau

Description of the event: After the last meetings held in Naples in November 2017, the Mediterranean regions gather again in the framework of their CPMR Intermediterranean Commission Working Groups and Political Bureau. The meetings will be held on the 14th and 15th February in Cartagena (Murcia, Spain), back to back with PANORAMED Steering Committee (Interreg MED project on governance).  The technical gatherings on the 14th will give the opportunity to discuss on important topics for the Blue Economy such as transports, fisheries, maritime investments, coastal protection, maritime spatial planning, as well as to reflect on the future of territorial cooperation programs. On the 15th the Political Bureau will focus its attention on the emerging strategies and initiatives such as West MED and BLUEMED, the governance and future cooperation in the Mediterranean, sustainable coastal & maritime tourism, and migration management with a multilevel governance approach.  For further information, please, contact Davide.Strangis@crpm.org


5th World Ocean Summit

Description of the event: The 5th World Ocean Summit will be held at Riviera Maya, Mexico, on 7-9 March 2018 and will grapple with some of the ocean’s most intractable problems and explore new possibilities. 4th Meeting of the UfM Working Group on the Blue Economy

Description of the event: The UfM Working Group on Blue Economy is a technical group composed of representatives designated by the UfM countries and is co-chaired by the two co-Presidencies with the support of the UfM Secretariat http://ufmsecretariat.org/ufm-working-group-blue-economy/ . The 4th Meeting of the UfM Working Group on the Blue Economy will be held on 26 April 2018 in Brussels.
